Paul is dead is a conspiracy theory that suggests that Paul McCartney of the Beatles died in 1966 in a car crash and that he was replaced by a look-alike.

The conspiracy theory started when a couple of college students claimed that they had listened to a Beatles song backwards and they said that they found clues supporting their theory. Believers of this theory claim to have found more evidence like that the Abbey Road cover is actually a funeral procession. This is due to the cover featuring the Beatles crossing the street in a line with John Lennon dressed in white (clergyman), Ringo Starr in black (undertaker), George Harrison in denim jeans and shirt (gravedigger), and Paul McCartney is barefoot and out of step with the others which people think symbolizes the corpse.
